Matt W. has a point, but most dent-bags, even cheap ones, are made of very durable materials.

Even lower-grade cordura nylon and canvas are very tough materials.

Regardless of whether the bag was a $130 bag or a $330 bag, I would regularly check any rivets, heavy stitching, and clasps which are located in critical areas. It is my suspicion that the it is one of the above things which failed, and that they would have shown evidence of weakness prior to failure, upon inspection.

Your bag may work out OK. Regardless of the price and reputation of your bag, inspect all of the critical stitching, rivets, clasps, and zippers regularly, and stay in touch with a good shoe or luggage repairman to keep in together.

As to your tuba, it will be dented in the bag soon enough with or without being dropped.
