This is an interesting discussion about a great piece. All the recordings listed in Gary's post are worth a listen, my personal favorite being the Reiner/CSO recording. I must take issue with one aspect of Gary's list. The Slatkin recording of Nevsky precedes Gene's joining the orchestra by a few years. Gene joined the SLSO around '83-'84.Nevsky was recorded in 1977-'78.
