Depends on the size of the tuba and your ability to package it. If you've got a sturdy case, Greyhound may be able to take it, provided it doesn't exceed their size limits. Warning: Greyhound doesn't go everywhere and will often hand the package off to other bus companies, like Trailways. Every transfer is an opportunity for damange.

I've sent things coast-to-coast via Yellow Freight, but if I were you, I'd pack the case in a box and then band the case to a wood pallet before giving it to them. The two times I've used Yellow, I built a wood packing crate for the horn.

Fedex now owns Roadway Freight and is out to take away UPS' customer base. Quite often, they'll provide UPS-quality(?) shipping for large packages at a reasonable price.
