One thing that orchestral players have to learn is to play really, really loudly without sounding stressed or strained, and this is one thing that you can learn in marching band. Don't splat or blat, and work for your best possible tone at all times. You might actually get a better sound and a more open embouchure out of it if you approach it positively.
