The new triple horns made by Finke have solved some of the problems of having two keys of horn go through the same tubing. The 2nd change valve, which puts the horn in high F, sends the air column through a different lead pipe, a shorter one with a different taper, then the Bb and F horns. This helps the intonation of the high F horn, although it still isn't really any better than a typical high F single horn. This kind of technology may be what is needed to get a double tuba to work. (besides making it out of kevlar or something that weighs less than metal.)
