I have had the same experience, and not just with a new horn. When I tuned my Distin BBb with the tuner at home I have the main slide about 1.5" out. When I got to rehearsal I had to push it in about an inch to be in tune with the ensemble. This was then confirmed using the strob-tuner when the band was tuning. I checked the batteries in my tuner and tried using my other 2 tuners at home and had the same result. I can't explain it either.

I have just decided to only worry about the relative positions of the individual valve slides at home, and let the group dictate the position of the main tuning slide. This seems to work for me.
