Really, the style of your accenting depends pretty heavily on the style of song you are playing. Sometimes the accent needs to be slight, just adding a little emphasis, other times the accents need to be big and obnoxious. Really, I'm not sure why they don't have a piano to forte scale for these things.
Anyway, accents are great. If there are no hints in the music, play what sounds stylistically correct, and use your musicality to determine what sort of accent the music needs.
