Well, I'm a former screamer myself (triple/trumpet high C) on tuba. And I tend to believe what arnold jacobs had to say on the subject (some people seem to think he was a good tuba guy):

The same muscles that you develop (on tuba) to control your low register are what help you control your upper register.

Also, and this can't be stressed enough, the low register is often called the ca$h register. In other words...there is _NO_ market for tuba screamers. Sam pilafian has high Fs clear as a bell, but not at the expense of a low register. Point is, get that low regigter focused and sounding great. I HIGHLY reccoment "Low etudes for tuba" by phil snedecor. If you can play through that whole book, your upper register can't help but be awesome.

And while we're talking about sam, he also says he keeps a trumpet mouthpiece handy (to buzz on) when he practices to make sure those upper notes stay focused.
