James Horner's score to "A Beautiful Mind" had no tuba or trombones. I believe the only brass were four trumpets (2 and 2 antiphonally) and 2 horns (antiphonally).
Maybe you heard a scab version from some orchestra in Transylvania or Inner/Outer Mongolia?? (just kidding)
