Question to York owners

I've just bought a 5/4 York CC. I know it was rebuilt in 1969, but I'm not sure if the thumb ring was put on the right 1st valve slide leg. The lower of the two slides on the first valve is of reversed construction like the slides on a bach trumpet. The ring is on the fixed leg. I was wondering if it should be on the movable outer, it could then be used for tuning with the right thumb.
A while ago somebody posted pictures of a 1915 6/4 BB flat. On that the ring is on the side I am thinking of, but I couldn't see if the slide legs were reversed so that the slide could be moved. Could anybody shed some serious light on the matter?
Thanks
Mike
