A thought to consider when thinking of how to display your tuba for public aclaim (Wow! Great looking horn! etc.)or just to admire with loving eyes ourselves is the effect on your finish if you have a silver plated instrument. Silver corodes from air contact alone and most hard cases come lined with a fabric impregnated with a chemical that retards tarnish (much like chests for silverware). A friend and I have identical silver plated horns and we play about the same amont (essentially every day). He keeps his out in the air on a shelf all the time and I keep mine in the hard case. His corodes about three times faster than mine does.
