baritone/euphonium question

Hello, Everyone!

I have perhaps an odd question about baritone horns/euphoniums, design, and professional acceptance.

In two years, I hope to begin work on a masters degree, involving both low brass performance and music education. Currently, I am a middle school band director, and I'd like a masters program which would both improve my teaching abilities and my low brass performance ability (I play both trombone and tuba.)

I would like to add the baritone to my list of instruments, but here is my question: must one have an actual euphonium for a low brass major? For example, would a Conn 14-I (or four-valved equivalent,) or a Yamaha YEP-211 not be an acceptable horn for this purpose?

Thanks in advance,

Mike

P.S. If anyone would like to recommend a college which offered such a major (hopefully in the mid-Atlantic USA,) I'd be happy to hear from you.
