Ok, I just finished all my Auditions and I got into some very fine schools by NOT playing a show off piece. I chose the Vivaldi Sonata # 3 in A minor and learned the 3rd and 4th movements. Very contrasting, not easy, but not very difficult either. As for etudes I did Blaz. 32 and Rochut 21. For Excerpts - Tuba solo from Mahler 1, Solo from Die Meistersinger, Til Eulenspiegals, and Prok. 5 (#'s 3-6, first mvt.) I received many compliments on my choice of music and the best part is I could play all of it without getting tired. I'm not trying to get you to play these same pieces, but you should try to pick a varied rep. and remember that these teachers auditioning you and probably going to hear the VW or similar pieces numerous times. Pick interesting, varied, and fun pieces. You should enjoy them as much as the person auditioning you.
