Answers:

1. If you are not married (or married to someone in the military) or have children you make 36500, if you are married (to someone who is NOT in the military) or do have children, you get 41500.

2. Around 4 hours. Every military band audition I have taken has been well over by 5pm (and most of the time by 2pm).

BTW, don't necessiarly (sp??) to try to beat everyone else you hear. If you hear someone in the warm-up room sound awesome and you just know you aren't better, still try your best. If you get a "Acceptable" rating, your audition is good for 6 months and if you are 2nd (or even 3rd), and a tuba opening comes up, they will call you.

It has happened that the winner was too fat, the 1st runner up had a medical problem, and the 2nd runner up got the job because he was rated acceptable by the Army band.
