reaming a mouthpiece poll

When searching the archives, I noticed that when using a tapered reamer (NOT a drill bit), there has been a difference of opinion on which direction to ream from - the rim side or the shank side. It seems to me that it will make a large difference in the result which side you start from, as it is a tapered enlargement as oppossed to a straight one.

I have drilled several mouthpieces over the years, but am about to attempt my first reaming job and need all the help I can get!

Thanks,
Marty
