A lot of times, teachers assume that because it worked for them, it's also what's best for their students. Most of my former teachers had the attitude of "Get a CC tuba AS EARLY AS YOU CAN!" without really taking into account the effects it might have on the students. I have about a half dozen students right now who I wouldn't yet even advise to purchase a 4 valve horn yet(but that's a whole different thread)... I've only advised one student to buy a CC horn, and I believe it was the right decision... I've got three students who have brand new BBb horns of varying brands and quality, and they all work best FOR THEM, not for me.
