With all due respect Farah, I must say "speak for yourself." As mentioned by another poster, the Army command bands (I think that's what they're called) and the USMC Fleet bands engage in regular military type training. I was ready to kill, pillage, and burn (like the song says) as a young Marine during Desert Storm. I am not ashamed to admit my relief that my unit did not see combat action (other bands did) but I felt ready and willing at the time. Some of us in the field/fleet bands were probably just as dangerous with our horns as we were with the other weapons they issued us!
BTW, does anyone have a copy of the photo the AP ran of the soldier slogging through the desert with a machine gun in hand and a Sousaphone on his back?
Let's hope the "doves" continue to keep the "hawks" in check, and ALL the military bands can continue making music.
Mike F.
