It's probably too late to audition now, but for future reference, check out the Oklahoma Summer Arts Institute. It's a two-week camp with many programs, including orchestra. The schedule is four concerts in two weeks on two different musical programs. I did OSAI for two years, and it was a great experience. In addition to the rehearsals, you get a private lesson each day over any material you wish, and each section has a sectional every day. So, you're essentially getting two private lessons a day as a tubist. The faculty is great, as are the conductors. (a different one each week) The orch. is basically All-State students from Oklahoma and Texas with a smattering of others states represented. It's really a fine ensemble. Even the violas did OK with Hary Janos.

Some of the rep I got to play/listen to there as a high school Jr/Sr:

Tscaik 4
Billy the Kid Suite
Hary Janos Suite
Intro to Act 1 of Lohengrin
Intro to Act 3 of Lohengrin
Dvorak 8
1812 (of course)
Egmont
Barber's Adagio
Symphonic Metemorphosis
Tscaik Romeo & Juliet
Russian Easter Overture
Shostakovitch 5

There are more that I have forgotten in the haze of time, but you get the idea. You'll play your socks off.
