If you don't want to be my friend and don't want me to be a monkey on your back for the 10 years of your life following college, go to a less expensive school but study with the teacher you want to study with. Most colleges will let you study with whatever teacher you want to study with, as long as you play in the ensembles they want you to.
Or, you can go to a state school then transfer. That's what Gene Pokorny (UC Redlands) and Norm Pearson (Cal State LA) did before going to USC. The most important thing about the college years is your lessons.
You have more options than being my friend for years and years and years.....
