True. Joe studied with John Mack and would drive to Cleveland once a month for lessons. He was also Principal Oboe in the ASO when it was fledgling orchestra. I stand by my assertion that one does not need the extraneous stuff. If you want something bad enough, you will not accept no for an answer. Perserverance, and a great teacher, make the difference. No school will instill a work ethic. It is my sense that many of my younger colleagues think that a school will gaurantee them a position. As Joe Novotny said to me once, "Chuck, you make your own private Julliard where ever you are". Food for thought.
