Ok if this is through Bands of America, this is not a marching band. Every year Bands of America has a concert band festival in some city. It had been in Chicago and Indianaopolis but I don't know where else. High School Concert bands send in tapes and are invited to perform at this festival. There are comments given by a panel from such conductors as Eugene Corporon, James Keene, and Ray Kramer, however I don't think it is a competition. In addition to this festival there is an honor band that is selected by audition tapes. The honor band goes up and rehearses an obscene amount of time (13 hours in one day) and then puts on a concert towards the end of the festival. I did this in high school and had a great time. The music was great and the conductor was fantastic. Maybe you are all talking about something different.
