I just got back from Europe on business and had the good fortune to be able to spend an afternoon at the Musical Instrument Museum in Brussels. It has a very interesting collection, but the most interesting is the F tuba that looks for all the world what the texts (Stauffer, etc.) show as the first tuba. It's in great condition, and I suspect that it was made in the late 1830's. It's about the size of a YBB103, but with 5 pistons. Very cool.

Also there is a more or less complete collection of Saxhorns, including something that looks a whole lot like a modern contrabass tuba. If there is any interest, I'll post some pictures when I can get my serial cable download working (camera to computer).
