That's an excellent idea, trying to make approximate extenders out of something like PVC as a way to test the theory. I understand your concerns about the adding of cylindrical tubing into a conical profile and, of course, that is the real question. But I wonder, especially since the added tubing would be spread around among all the valve slides plus the main slide, if the added tubing would even effect the intonation in any way. We are talking a relatively short piece of tubing attached to the main slide. The valve slides are all basically cylindrical anyhow. I guess the biggest question would be if it would be better to add all or some of the extra tubing as a bit on the mouthpiece or some other form of extension to the leadpipe at the receiver end. Would this be preferable or would it be better to just put extensions on the main slide? Maybe split it between the two?
