I just received an LP called "The Virtuoso Tuba" recorded by Zdzislaw Piernik in 1981. This is a wonderfully lyrical, musical tuba recordings that I've heard in a long time. Nothing flashy--Mozart, Eccles, Boccherini, that sort of thing. Just good solid playing, although his rendition of the Carnival of the Animals "The Elephant" is a riot.

I know this is the gentleman for whom Penderecki composed his Capriccio, but other than that, I know nothing about him. Anyone have any additional information? Are there more recordings? Is he still performing?
