One additional bit of advice:

It might seem obvious, but try to orient the joint so that gravity will help the solder flow into the joint (ie nib pointing down, so that the curve of the bow is like that of a spoon on a tabletop. When the joint is full, you will just see the solder all around the perimeter of the nib. Try to keep this perimeter in a level plane. If it is upside down from that, the solder may tend to run OUT of the joint and muck it up. With small parts out of the horn, don't forget gloves or a gentle grip with some tool, so you don't have to drop it suddenly, and go easy with the heat. Once it is is hot enough to melt, a gentle play of the flame will keep things liquid. Let it cool slowly.
