Even the pro shops burn lacquer now and again. My horn is (unfortunately) evidence of this - and this was done by a shop that prides itself in perfection. I was even asked to put an old horn back in my car before they would talk about it - no kidding! I guess it was too ugly to be seen in their midst.
I agree that soldering/brazing is easy. It's making it look good that is tough. You may want to ask a pro - drop by a shop that does it and just watch them. You can pick up lots of techniques that way (like how NOT to trash the finish, or end up with an extra 5 lbs. of solder on your horn).
