Rick, I love 4WD, living in British Columbia's interior for several years and having to negotiate mountain roads in great snow and, once in a while, silver thaw. But I also learned that wheel base length was every bit as important in preventing end-swaps as 4WD. An engineer once explained to me what he called the di-polar moment of inertia. It all made sense at the time, particularly when I traded my Scout 4WD for a LWB Dodge van and found the van to be MUCH less twitchy on the road than the Scout. But the two best snow cars I ever had were a '63 Valiant and an '82 Toyota Cressida. Rock solid on the snowy, icy road.
