If you prefer to carry your tuba in a gig bag, then I suggest getting a SUV. However, if you don't have the money for that, buy a hatchback. Volvo makes great station wagons as does Subaru outbacks. If you put your tuba in the back of the pickup, it can get bounced around quite a bit while going out to the desert to drive over rocks.
