I am currently driving a BMW 1600, the first version of the famous 2002 built from 68-76.
A really nice '02 can be had for 6-8 grand, for that price you can get a fully-sorted solid car that runs almost like new, has good economy and power, real kitch-y cache (very important to some musicians) and is a hell of a lot of FUN to drive as well! Mine takes any of my tubas just fine in the passenger seat, and if you play a german-style horn I think its likely you'd have no problem hiding it in the trunk (the 18-20" bells on my horns wont fit there alas....)
For the money you'd save over a "new" econobox,
you can afford to buy an Alex CC AND a Gronitz F, or a Hirsbrunner, or double-pane windows for your house, or............
