Mr Jacobs and Bernstein had a friendly relationship - something rare with a conductor. Mr Jacobs last recording was Schostakovich 1 and 7 with Bernstein. Bernstein said something like "You SOB, you can't retire." Looks like they met one night after a concert and Bernstein wrote a thank you note. This is rare for a conductor!
