Since 1999 is the centennial of Duke Ellington's birth, there are likely to be many gigs featuring his music. Can a tuba player hope to be hired without resorting to bass trombone? In other words, do the Ellington (Strayhorn) charts include tuba? Did any of the Ellington band lineups over the years include a tubist?
