On my Yamaha 822 F I have a main tuning slide trigger that has linkage leading up to where I rest my left hand on the top bow of the horn. As far as getting the slide back into neutral position, the trigger has a 2-way spring that allows me to tune my horn sharp or flat depending on the note. The original design was made by Robb Stewart (his phone # is in the TUBA directory if you want to talk to him about it) for Jim Self's original 822 F. It's a terribly ingenious device. Mine was made by Don Sawday in Long Beach, CA. E-mail me if you want more info.
