Of course, it depends on what music is being played, but I tend to believe the opposite -- the players with better sound tend to collect more water. Darker sound almost always takes more air to produce than a brighter sound (one of my classmates noticed this when we finally taught him how to sound good), and more hot, wet air means more water.
Maybe "more experienced" means knowing how to let out the water without anyone noticing... :)
